| 2011 - 2012 Wresting Results 1-23-12, 2A Interlake wrestlers defeated 3A O’Dea, 37 to 33 1-24-12, Interlake defeated 3A Bellevue, 62 to 18 1-24-12, Interlake defeated Lake Washington, 51 to 18 Interlake varsity wrestling defeated Tyee/Evergreen (combined team) on Jan 11, 2012, 46 to 27. Several Interlake wrestlers placed in the top 5 at the Everett Classic Tournament on Sat, Jan 14th at Jackson HS in Mill Creek. Interlake placed 6th as a team. Top finishers were: Jacob Marks, 152lb, Champion Jake Wilson, 145lb, 2nd Daniel Montoya, 132lb, 3rd Netto Cancilla, 195lb, 3rd Chad Peterson, 220lb, 3rd John Harman, 126lb, 5th Alex Giseburt, 160lb, 5th Fine Nagauamo, 285lb, 5th Grant Cole placed 1st in the 4th bracket of the JV tournament On 12/15/11, Interlake Varsity Wrestlers wrestled Mercer Island (last year’s Kingco champs) tough, but lost 37 to 40. But on 12-16-11, they turned around to defeat Liberty 40 to 28. And on 12-22-11, while everyone else was vacationing, they defeated Orting (1A state champs) 40 to 28 and also defeated Emerald Ridge 39 to 36. On 12/20 and 21, our only lady wrestler, Kierra Malarkey-Kessler placed 7th in the Lady Lions Tournament in Auburn. Always up to a challenge, our Varsity Wrestlers competed in the Hanford High Winter Cup Invitational (one of the most difficult tournaments in the state) on 12-28-11. Joey Button placed 2nd at 130lb. John Harmon 112lb, Marcus Kopp 103lb, Juan Mujo 140lb, and Ethan Spading 275lb all placed 3rd. They will continue onto Regionals this Sat at Tumwater High School. And congratulations to the Interlake Girls Wrestlers who competed in the Sub-Regional 2A League Tournament. Brandae Grein is the 160lb champion and Summer Hanson placed 2nd at 119lb. Kierra Malarkey-Kessler also wrestled tough. Brandae and Summer will continue onto Regionals. Interlake wrestlers defeated Evergreen and Tyee 51 to 26 on 1/26, but lost to Cedarcrest 27 to 45 on 2/1/11. Lots more wrestling results: On 1/13 Interlake defeated Juanita 32 to 31 in an exciting match up but lost to O’Dea on 1/17 28 to 37. A frustrating meet between Interlake and Bellevue ended in a tie, 38 all, but Bellevue took home the win since Interlake had received a penalty point. Interlake wrestlers defeated Lake Washington 48 to 28 on 1/20 and also beat Sammamish 68 to 12 on 1/24. Interlake wrestlers have been hard at work, beating Liberty HS, 54 to 19 on Dec 17th and Mt. Si HS, 43 to 30 on Jan 6th. Their only loss so far this season was to Mercer Island HS on Dec 16th, 24 to 40. Many of the JV and Varsity boys wrestlers competed in the Everett Classic Tournament on Sat, Jan 8th along with 17 other schools. The girls attended the Sedro Woolley Tournament on the same day. Summer Hanson placed 2nd and Brandae Grein placed 3rd in their weight classes.
